What is the Panchamaya Kosha Model?
Panchamaya Kosha Model is a yoga philosophy and comprehensive framework for understanding the multi-dimensional nature of human existence.
The human body is made up of 5 sheaths, or interconnected layers, that represent different aspects of our existence, contributing to overall health and well-being.
The five koshas are:
Annamaya Kosha: This is the physical body, including size, shape, gender, race, ethnicity, anatomy, and physiology.
Pranamaya Kosha: This is the energetic body, or life force, that is located on our breaths and is nourished by oxygen when we inhale.
Manomaya: This is the mental-emotional body, or lower, mind which is responsible for taking in and processing the five senses.
Vijnanamaya Kosha: This is our higher mind which includes conscience and will.
Anandamaya Kosha: This is the most subtle layer, characterized by the ability to connect with wonder and awe.
The koshas are intertwined with each other, with each layer affecting the others. By addressing and nourishing all five sheaths through various yogic practices, individuals can achieve holistic balance and progress on the path to healing and eudaimonic well-being.
